travel: cdo and camiguin

i am planning to go to cdo and camiguin this coming month so hopefully the plan will go smoothly. i'm crossing my fingers and toes.

UPDATES: Yey.. i already have the ticket. i booked this morning. So CdO and Camiguin welcome the footloose in your neighborhood. i am really excited to visit the southern part of the country. its nice to travel whether its just within the country or outside. of course its cheaper to travel locally. but if you have the money to travel the world then why not. but lets start with our own backyard.

cheat, gets cheated on or get even with

in life its either you cheat, you gets cheated on, or get even with.

now choose which one are you? i might be a combination of the three. you just don't always cheat. someone in the past, present or you're future might have cheated/be cheating/will cheat on you. but don't worry. you can always get even. and when you cheat he/she might get even with you as well. so that's life. its not perfect. because if it is then there is nothing to worry anymore. there's no more fun. of hurting and being hurt.

well its just me and my dumb thinking.

made in china

Yet another scare coming from china. overshadowing their great feats in the recently concluded olympics is the melamine-tainted milk scandal.

To spare you the details on melamine, it is used combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic, and melamine foam, apolymeric cleaning product. The end products include countertops, dry erase boards, fabrics, glues, housewares and flame retardants. Melamine is one of the major components in Pigment Yellow 150, a colorant in inks and plastics.

Melamine is also used to make fertilizers. (wikipedia), and recently found in infant formula.

According to reports there were 53, 000 infants affected and 4 were killed.

Reports say Philippine Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) has imposed a temporary ban on the sale and distribution of all Chinese milk products as a result of the melamine contamination crisis. WHO likewise warned neighboring countries against illegal entry of melamine-contaminated milk products from China.

I remember there was this ban in toys containing lead paint coming from china as well. i came across this one particular blog which listed china's products and the horrors they brought to the consumers.

China is known for mass producing and selling cheap products. it is good to know that those companies manufacturing low quality products or no quality at all which are detrimental to the consumers are getting caught. everyone should really be cautious nowadays but for those who are not informed about these anomalies might continue to patronize these cheap products.

i am not saying all "made in china" products are cheap or something like that but that is the notion. i think aside from getting really big profits these chinese companies should consider the lives of the consumers.

i said i love you and you said yes

quote: a return to love by marianne williamson

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.

And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

philippines at its finest

as much as i wanted to distant myself from writing my views about the present situation of my country i just can't. i cannot hold back anymore.

i am going to start with the present govt which includes the opposition and the fuckers. you know politician in the philippines (generally, that is 98 % in my opinion) are selfish, corrupt and full of themselves. they feel that they are the gods . they do not realize that its the people they have fooled during the election who put them in their pedestal except of course those cheaters. they just don't know the true meaning of public service. instead they are really good in math. they know how much they could get during their 3 year or 6 year term. and they are really good in splurging the money .

prices of commodities, goods, services etc whatever you want to call it soar up high. wages are low. the govt keeps the taxes we paid for and spend it for their whims.

infrastractures are substandard. this is where you can see roads being concreted and after a year it gets destroyed by the same contractor to build a new one. imagine the heavy traffic it causes. why can't they build a good one that will last for centuries or decades to say the least. the reason is of course to earn millions for their own pockets. imagine the contracts and the percentage they will get from it. i heard the same story about this in one of the provinces i visited. the mayor insisted that the korean contractor will build the road and not the local contractors. the result of course is the best one they could have and the local contractors of course who are expecting to earn from the project were dismayed. i commend the mayor of course. but not all mayors especially congressmen are like him.

in my own province, there was this project which the congressman built and it was just half-finished. the other half would be in his next term. the project was supposed to be completed since he ask for the budget and it was properly appropriated. but no one dares to check if the project was completed anyway so he gets away with it. and  so with all his other projects.

is this the way you would be proud of with your govt.? the one we call "leaders"  are the ones who suck the blood of the country.  filipinos are not proud of the leaders they have. starting from the barangay captain to the highest position in the land. filipinos are proud when they hear a kababayan won this or that in a contest abroad but that doesn't change the situation here. that only clouds the bad situation for the moment. it doesn't feed the hungry. it doesn't lower the price of oil, goods etc.

the quality of education is not good anymore. the govt cannot allocate enough funds for education. no classrooms, lack of books, lack of competent teachers. (i can't even say i got proper education but that is a diff story).

jobs. lots of filipinos doesn't have a decent jobs. they find it abroad.

poverty. the govt does nothing about it. totally. some private sectors do. but its not enough.

crime rate. the best we ever have. murder due to petty reasons to heavy ones, carnapping, kidnapping, robbery, extortion. want more? drunk driving is not considered a violation here. drunked drivers either get killed, get someone killed or live but the vehicle totally damaged.

we cannot simply put someone behind bars. no budget for prisoner's food. so might as well let the prisoner stay overnight and allow them to escape or lower the bail.

if you are rich its the poor's crime and they are to be convicted.

cheap sex. you can find it here. the country promotes sex tourism. but not advertised. sorry. you have to have a good connection. white slavery welcome.

drugs. its easier to build a simple drug lab here. beware of the officers who will raid you. they will resell your goods.

welcome to my country. where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. there's hope they say. yeah right. this is my opinion. i will not do anything either to do some good things for my country. what for?

study: Cisco Networking

i know this is a boring subject for some people out there but this is part of my job. and i need to make this a part of my life since this is the source of my money. studying cisco is quite easy if you have the basic knowledge of networking. and it is easier if you really put your heart into it. its like being a medical doctor and understanding how the human body works and i think biology is far harder than networking. anyway to cut the crap, i think its fun to study cisco (convince me more please). i'm not a geek or something pretending to be someone who knows about complicated stuff to impress anyone. we just need to know the things that matter to us and for me this matters because as i have mentioned earlier this is my income generator (whatever that means).

i would be renewing my license for cisco soon. i don't know if i would upgrade but i have to focus first on the basics. i have some reviewers here from testking and pass4sure but nothing beats the real thing, and that is reading the latest sybex edition 4 times and running some simulators. i don't have available routers and switches so i'll just deal with what i have. ciao.

trip to manila ocean park

today as planned last night we went to ocean park. same guys minus ping plus rj. the theme park is not completely finished. the collection of marine life is just okay. i still find hongkong ocean park far better than what we have here in manila. well its just my opinion. if you happen to see what they have in hk you will understand what i mean. i am not good in giving details. i left my canon ixus800 so i just settled with my phone. at least my colleagues brought their own digicams so i could just join the group pics which unfortunately will not be posted here but only in our multiply account. anyway here are some pics taken on my nokia 6300.

ang batang makulit..rj

then we went to moa after the marine life sight-seeing.

maybe seeing the fishes was not enough for the day so i had sizzling bangus for dinner too.

what a day to spend while on sick leave.

happiness #2

happiness cannot be measured by what you have materially. it cannot be stolen from you. you may lose it for a time but it will come back to you sooner than you expected. happiness is not the opposite of sadness but the lack of it. we can define happiness in whatever way we can. we may be at peace and contented but does it mean happiness? does success equates to happiness? maybe its just a state of mind, maybe its not. i have my own definition and to avoid receiving harsh commentaries i'll just keep it myself. now am i happy? it doesn;t matter. but what about you? are you?

book: the alchemist by paulo coelho

this is what everybody is talking about even before. and like cinema paradiso, i've just finished reading this book. i am a late bloomer when it comes to reading the good books out there or watching the best movies of all time. but what the heck.

the whole story tells about following your dreams (just like any other books). set in spain. going to a never-been-to land. a journey. to reach your dreams. your heart's desire. facing the dangers lurking from somewhere. and going back from where everything had started.

honestly this book is the reason why i have decided to quit my job. it really helped me realized that there is more out there for me than staying in my comfort zone. that i have to follow my own dream. that i have to leave some people behind (coz they have their own dreams, maybe) so that i will not have any regrets later on in my life. this is one of the major decisions i have made so far. its not as big as what you expect that will affect the economy or something but for me who's life revolves between my job, my self, my family and some important people it matters.

sometimes in your life you really have to make a choice. you may suffer for some time or suffer forever. you may be happy for a day or be happy forever. i realized that many people out there (really) are willing to help me if i just let them be. i have created a monster in my head about some other people and i had my eyes fixed on that monster for so long that i haven't seen the other people who are ready to kill that monster on my head. who are more than willing to battle against it. to prove that i was wrong. that i had the wrong impression. sure there are some. then there are some who are not.

its really hard for me to put things in details as i may hurt some people. i'd rather be the one hurt. anyway the book is really an opener to me. if you can't buy a copy of this book you might try borrowing from one of your friend. he/she might have a copy of this.

boredom kills

since i really could not take any more the sights of the four corners of my room i decided to go to the mall. i texted ping for meet up to check some books and so he got his book child 44 by tom rob smith. after lighting 2 sticks of cigar we had a heavy lunch at pho hoa, a viet resto. dropped me off at my place since he need to go to ateneo and i need to watch bleach 187. we met again at the office around 8pm to meet our old friend from singapore for some dinner and some bottle of beers afterwards. today i did not report for work. i filed for a sick leave (yes i am not sick). same guys last night planned to go to ocean park manila and they have this day off for work.

the mall

i wonder why dog collars and leashes are included in the grocery

common grocery items

unfortunately my phone's battery was  emptied when ping and i had our lunch in pho hoa so i was not able to take pics of the foods we feasted.

i will upload our pics in the ocean park later in my  next post.

book: the griffin and sabine trilogy by nick bantock

i have nothing left to do these past few days except to review for my upcoming technical interview(s). it was always raining heavy outside and i hardly get out of my cave.

so to break the monotony of it i grab the book(s) and started my way to finishing it in one sitting. i couldn't say the whole book was great. but the effort of putting/including some artworks into it is truly amazing. its full of pictures. pop art i guess. modern art? i just couldn't get the ending if the two characters really saw and be with each other. its not a typical storytelling book where the author says what happens next in detail. you might try to guess i think what happens next. it was kind of "bitin" really. but who am i to say what should happen to the story. the author still has the final say of what will happen to the characters he created even if it means killing them for no reason. i really liked the idea of the author's freedom.

as i said just breaking out of the monotony of my life.

goodbye coz im leaving soo

i have decided to leave my comfort zone. i didn't think twice. i don't want to put anything into consideration because if i do then it will just give me a heavy heart and will make me stay longer.

i have to let go. of everything.  i need to chase my heart. i don't want to be left behind just being stucked here realizing that i am the last one standing here.

i have to move forward even if sacrificing my happiness is the only way.

letting go.. moving on. easier said than done. but i have to. even if i break my own heart. at least i have my mind left. my sanity will keep me going, hopefully.

i hope its not too late, and i won't look back with regrets.

greener pasture. new friends, enemies, challenges. please welcome me.

movie: cinema paradiso

one of the best film i had ever seen. its such a shame its just now that i had the chance to watch it.

it shows the evolution of film showing in cinema paradiso, a movie theater in giancaldo, the deep friendship formed between the projectionist and the young boy, the experiences of the moviegoers inside paradiso, the love story, the humor, drama, and the rise and fall of the theater. every scene, emotion and facial expression shown were essential to the whole movie. everything about it was perfect. genius.

it really deserved to be the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1990.

i am not a movie critic and i couldn't say more.

reminder: always do a backup

i accidentally deleted a post thinking it was just a draft, it was just a copy and i already published it. i didn't know i have deleted it for good. it happened already to the same post last night. i tried to click on back button hoping that the page will for heaven's sake be displayed (cache) and viola there it was. i don't want to recall all that i had written since my memory is as good as a lizard. i copied the  entry paste it on textedit (apple equivalent to notepad) and saved it. i simply clicked published the post on the other hand and it was saved.

now this morning i checked my drafts to see if i need to publish some of them and i saw the same blog title. i checked on the box and pressed the delete option. maybe i was just not sure if i really opened the drafts or the published posts. i visited my site and the post was gone. sure enough i opened the published posts and just deleted again my entry. i was in shocked. i already forgotten those lines i had written the last night but then i remembered i have a copy in the text editor. god saved the king!

i couldn't rely on my brain alone. sometimes you need a help and it comes in different forms. mine is backing-up.

and speaking of backing-up another incident will beat what just had happened. i have a canon ixus 800. i visited my dysfunctional family in the province and got in for some adventures. we have gone fishing,  to the woods and then of course we hit the beach. all these moments were captured. normally what i  would do when i get back to the city is to copy the pics in my portable drive (as a backup) before uploading in my multiply account. that day i forgot the drive so i just went ahead and inserted the sd to a card reader, plugged the reader into the laptop (not mine) and lo and behold the pics were gone! i didn't know that the laptop was infected by a virus. i tried inserting the sd back into the digicam hoping that i could still see my pics and what had just happened was a joke. but everything was gone. the files were already corrupted.

i seek for help but all they could advise was to use some software which i couldn't download completely without paying. no, i need a free software. i won't pay a single dime. there must be some application software out there who could perform this task of retrieving my corrupted files. and so i googled for it. its like a treasure hunting for me. i tried everything but none of them seems to do what i need them to do. and then finally i came across this one called testdisk 6.x. i run the program meticulously following the instructions (with screenshots) and finally all the files missing were there. its like i was seeing dead person coming back to life! and there's more. even the files i deleted and the files i had prior to formatting was even recovered. amazing. do you know inoue orihime (bleach)? its like her powers but this one is real for real people.

TestDisk is a free software data recovery utility licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). It was primarily designed to help recover lost data storagepartitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by faulty software, certain types of viruses or human error (such as accidentally erasing a partition table).(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

book: me talk pretty one day by david sedaris

just finished reading the book lent to me by junjun. it was a breather for me really. i find mr. sedaris' style witty and humorous. pure entertainment. what more can i say? i think i will start collecting his books too. just like what i did when i first read grisham and sheldon and paretsky and gardner.

i prefer reading novels than watching tv shows. imagination-wise, i can surpass the cinematographic background of a movie when i am reading a book.

i tried to listen to an audiobook once but i can't seem to catch up for some reason. my listening skills is not that good really. reading from pages to pages allows me to feel and savour each word the author inked. i can go back to the previous chapters or page(s) with ease if i forgot something about a certain character. yeah you can do that too when watching a movie but then again its me right?

my entertainment preference is simple. i hate complicated things. as much as possible i avoid analytical situations and things which drain my occasionally used brain. but if my job requires it then i have no option. back to reading. next in line would be the "The Alchemist". I can't believe i had missed all the good books out there. let me see if i can fit all these readings this coming weekend.

sports: US Open 2008

nadal seems to be floating on  air as he prevented mardy fish from going into the semis. now i can only imagine the showdown in the finals between rafa and fed. well its just me and my imagination. who knows what will happen in the days to follow. i might be wrong you know.

Nadal(1) will face Murray(6) in the semis

Federer(2) will meet Muller in the quarter

Roddick(8) will meet Djokovic(3) in the quarter

now who is Gilles Muller? honestly this is the first time i saw his name so i checked his completed matches and i was impressed on the list of his opponents he trounced. 1st round is laurent recouderc, 2nd round tommy haas, 3rd round nic almagro(18) 4th round nik davydenko(5). he now faces the great fed(2) on the quarterfinals. everyone knows federer well. lets see who will win.

travel blog: Kuala Lumpur 2

the next day we went to see the city (commonly known as city tour minus a tour guide)

some high rise buildings greet me in the morning when i peek from our hotel window

and this is the eye level view of the city. much like in makati

the KLCC tower

the amazing Petronas twin tower. huge huge huge is all i can say

azim from london travelling alone. he took our group photos and gave us some tips about where to go in bali

gucci shop inside the twin tower's mall

chanel store. toni with her cousin carla. partners in crime (of shopping)

yes they do have hermes in KL. no need to go to US or Europe to buy that expensive scarves

waiting for the bus going to genting. skycable was under repair so we had to endure the heat in puduraya station

genting bus station. genting highlands is more like baguio city but this place is way way better

genting resort hotel lobby

i saw the bed inviting me to dreamland. as always i preferred sleeping over eating or riding those wild coasters in the theme park. it was raining hard outside anyway

travel blog: Kuala Lumpur 1

before hitting bali we were in KL.

it all startted with our tired and weary feet

we arrived 7PM and since our hotel (Ancasa Hotel and Resort Spa) is just near Chinatown we tried to check out what they offer. Its typical Chinatown place i guess like what we have here in the phillies.

some traditional chinese costumes

chinese restos lined up and we tried what they have

beef with onion and green pepper

some veggies which i forgot how it was called

yeah they do have yangchow rice like here in the third world

it is very unusual that at 7PM the sun is just setting down in Malaysia. I mean here in the phillies 6PM is as dark as the bat cave. oh well

time to sleep

or clown around?

and more
